The 8th International Workshop on Clinical Research Methods in Oral Health, Thailand
The Faculty of Dentistry, Khon Kaen University (KKU) hosted “the 8th International Workshop on Clinical Research Methods in Oral Health” during February 20-24,2023 at KKU Science Park, Khon Kaen, Thailand. The workshop aimed to enforce the quality of research in oral health in Southeast Asia by providing intensive courses including Research Methods & Evidence-based Dentistry, Behavioral Research in Dentistry, Ethnical Issues in Research, Biostatistics, and Study Design. Invited speakers and mentors from University of Washington, Dr. Christy McKinney and Dr. Susan E. Coldwell, KKU, Thammasat University, and Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, shared their expertise through a number of lectures and group discussion to apply the knowledge learnt from classes.
The opening ceremony took place on February 20th, 2023. On this occasion, Assoc.Prof. Charnchai Panthongviriyakul, the President of Khon Kaen University gave the opening speech to welcome all guests, speakers, and 44 participants from 11 countries; Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand. Deans from the network universities were also invited to the ceremony including Asst.Prof.Dr.Sutee Suksudaj, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Thammasat University, Thailand, Prof.Dr. Zamri Radzi, Dean of Faculty of Dentistry, Universiti Malaya, Malaysia, and Prof.Dr. Michelle Segarra, Dean of the College of Dentistry, University of Philippines Manila, Philippines. All are past trainees of the project.
This workshop is a part of the project titled, “Clinical and Public Health Research Training in Oral Health for Southeast Asia” with a 5-year (2022-2027) funding from the National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) & Fogarty International Center (FIC), National Institutes of Health (NIH). The project is led by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Waranuch Pitiphat, Dean of Faculty of Dentistry, Khon Kaen University with collaborations of the University of Washington, USA, Khon Kaen University and Thammasat University, Thailand, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Vietnam, University of Philippines-Manila, Philippines, Universitas Indonesia, Indonesia, and Universiti Malaya, Malaysia. It is an excellent opportunity to promote the research quality and update knowledge in this field among Southeast Asia countries. The workshop will continue to be organized annually onwards aiming to prepare young researchers with the foundation to conduct quality research in Oral Health.
