August 26, 2020 at Sarasin Room, Sirikunakorn Building, Khon Kaen University – The Administrative Committee of Field Practicum, KKU and Faculty of Dentistry held a meeting for community leaders from 12 areas of the joint field practicum, which is this year hosted by Faculty of Dentistry. The event this year is named, “Joint Field Practicum 2020 under the Spread of the New Coronavirus, Covid-19”. Asst. Prof. Piyachat Pacharanuchat, D.D.S, a lecturer of Department of Public Dental Health is the chairperson of the training this year. Asst. Prof. Arwut Yimtae, Vice President for Infrastructure and Environment and Assoc. Prof. Waranuch Pitiphat, D.D.S., Dean of Faculty of Dentistry welcomed the community leaders from 12 communities in 4 districts, including Nam Pong, Sam Sung, Ban Hat and Ban Fang, totaling 70 people.
Asst. Prof. Piyachat Pacharanuchat, the Chairperson of the 2020 Joint Field Practicum said that Khon Kaen University has run this program for 38 years. The practicum features learning and multidisciplinary contents in the style of Inter-professional Education(IPE). The joining faculties include Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Associated Medical Science, and Pharmaceutical Science, together with KKU General Education Office and Faculty of Nursing of College of Asian Scholars. The cooperating network consists of 12 communities in 4 districts, including Nam Pong, Sam Sung, Ban Hat and Ban Fang in Khon Kaen. This year, due to the spread of the new Coronavirus, Covid-19, which is expected to last all through the year; the operation of the training has to take into account safety of all participants as the key aspect. The theoretical instruction will be online. Training in the field will be held, but somewhat modified. The students and lecturers will commute the site instead of staying there.
Asst. Prof. Arwut Yimtae, Vice President for Infrastructure and Environment said, “I’m very pleased to meet you all today. The joint field practicum has been carried out for the 38th time this year. The practicum is performed in a joint-activity style, with students from Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Associated Medical Science, and Pharmaceutical Science, together with KKU General Education Office and Faculty of Nursing of College of Asian Scholars. The joint field practicum is the event that answers the university’s policy and is an approach of instruction that helps solving the problems of people in the region. The students train to work together. This means they are prepared to graduate with qualities and visions in assisting the society, especially the rural areas. They are trained to work together with other students and can go out to work in a multidisciplinary team in the future happily according to the university’s concept. The participating community people from 12 areas form an important network of Khon Kaen University. Your cooperation helps the activity to proceed, even though we are in the Covid-19 situation this year. I believe that Khon Kaen University will be able to join you in developing the quality of life of the community people in the long run.”
